Mark 12:30

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Mark 12:30 ImageThis technique uses muscle memory. Look at the image and follow along:

First, we want to remember the Scripture reference, Mark 12:30. We could read these characters “Mark, 1, 2, 3, 0 (or “O”). This sounds like the beginning of a race – “On your mark; 1, 2, 3, Go!” So bend one knee a bit and lean forward like you are getting ready to run, and say (firmly): “Mark. 1, 2, 3, (g)O!” (Drop the “G” from “Go”.) We will remember this can’t be “Mark 1:230”, or “Mark 123:0”, so it must be “Mark 12:30”. Come on, you really have to do this if it’s going to work!

Now stand up straight, and trace a big “heart” shape with your hands in front of your body as you say “Love”.

As your hands come together at the bottom of the heart, bring them up in front of your chest and continue to raise and spread your hands until your arms are extended up like the letter “Y”, while saying “the Lord your God.”
(“Y” for “your”)

Hmm, this is becoming almost like a cheer. So, keeping your feet together and standing straight (like a cheerleader), bring your closed fist to your heart, saying “with all your heart”;
then raise one foot behind you so the sole (soul, get it?) is up and point your hands by your side toward your foot, saying ” and with all your soul”;
then straighten up and bring your fingertips to the sides or your head, saying “and with all your mind”;
then make a “muscle man” pose saying “and with all your strength.”

That’s it! Look at the pictures to help get the idea, then do the motions while saying the verse. Don’t forget the “Mark 1,2,3,O” part. Do this a couple of times a day for a few days and you will remember this verse!
